Elie Saab SS14

Ok. I'm a sucker for romantic girly dresses. If you've been following my blog, you would've seen romantic wedding gowns, mermaid/fishtail dresses and Marchesa.

Anyways Elie Saab has just released his Spring/Summer 2014 Couture collection (which you can view here) and HOMAIGAWDDD... it's an ethereal fairytale garden with splashes of romance and happily ever after.

Here are some of my favorites :)

 Pockets in dresses! Brilliant!

 Can someone spell ethereal goddess?
Can't say the same for her expression though.

Ahhhh so pretty

I love how this is so girly elegant

Greek goddesses aren't afraid to show off a little leg

Love the juxtaposition of dark and girly florals

OMG SUPER LOVE!!! I think she looks like a deadly nightshade about to bloom.
Delicate yet dangerous.
But you can't help but want to get closer to it.

Black's always a timeless color.
I love the hemline embellishment.
Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.

The man himself, Elie Saab. Thank you so much for this gorgeous collection!!!

Dreamy wedding dresses

Okay, I confess... I didn't go scouring the internet for these gorgeous dresses... rather I was inspired by this Buzzfeed post so much so that I thought that I'd repost it with my favourite ones :)

A intricately gorgeous back
From onetowed
Super dainty low-backed dress with an oh-so-soft layered dress
From Wanda Borges
I super love how delicate the straps are and how layered the dress is. Love love love.
From jlmcouture

This is definitely my favorite of the bunch. I love the Grecian
goddess look and it looks airy enough for tropical weathers!
From Shareen Vintage
In case you haven't noticed, I have this thing for dresses that
are delicate and have a lot of layers. But look! Oh so pretty!
Also from jlmcouture

Ok nothing is sexier than a lace-up back, now is there?
From weddbook

Ok not too crazy about the bolero but I do love how
the hemline reaches slightly around the ankles.
From Stephanie Allin

Classic heart shaped top, full skirt and pockets? SOLD!!!
From La Sposa

Butterflies!!! 'Nuff sed :)
From Elizabeth Fillmore Bridal

I love the sequins! The sparkliness it adds just gives it a
more magical kind of feel. Oh and it has pockets!
From the one and only Vera Wang

Love that China (the ceramics, not the country)
peeking out from the bottom of the hemlines
From jasminestar
I love how showing of some leg makes this
dress look even more elegant
From Paolo Sebastian
So what do you think?

Golden Globe garb!

I don't know about you but I really love awards season because of all the dresses.

Now I'm no fashionista and I do have pretty traditional/regular tastes so nothing too out there....

Anyways here are some of my favorite ones for the Golden Globes :)

Jenna Dewan-Tatum looks absolutely gorgeous in this fish-tail dress. I love how the black bits help accentuate her figure and makes the dress look so delicate.

I do not believe that this woman is 50. Seriously? Look at that skin! *sigh*

Oh I LOVE how Sarah Hyland's dress looks so proper and demure up front... and it's all cool and sexy from the back!

Okay it took me a while to figure out what the pink prints were... my first few guesses were a bunch of umbrellas, then some flamingoes. But aww look at that glow!

I'm more in love with her look than her dress.
Okay fine her dress does kinda blend in with the red carpet but doesn't she just look super sizzling hot?

The Ice Queen doing what she does best. Smoulder people with her stare.

Okay, I'm not like a major fan of Hayden but I think she looks absolutely demure here. I love how the asymmetrical pattern on her dress forces you to look at her. Gorgeous.

Giuliana looking radiant as always. I love major tulle dresses. Makes me feel like some princess or ballerina.

Okay I'm not sure who she is but she does remind me of Winona Ryder here with that dark brown bob, porcelain skin and a tinge of rouge.

Update: Her name is Michelle Dockery. Still doesn't ring a bell for me. I have to google her up but she looks gorgeous and that's all I care for this post :P

Bombshell Sofia Vergara doesn't have to do much but I must say I am very intrigued by how her statement necklace complements her simple black dress.

Love love love it! *runs out to get some statement necklaces a pronto!*

Zosia Mamet's got this lovely floral dress thingie that reminds me of Jenna Dewan-Tatum's. I think I like Jenna's more but I would probably be able to pull this one off better :(

Yeah and these are my two least favorites. And the only reason why I'd even put them in here because usually love and agree with their styles

Drew... seriously, what were you thinking?

Whomsoever responsible for this dress, should be put on probation. There's a thin line between simple sophistication and lazy. I call this lazy.

And I'm out!

So what defines you?

First post of the year and I am compelled by Lizzie Velasquez.

This determined and cheerful young woman suffers from a super rare disease that has so far affected only three people (herself included) where they have no body fat. Like... None. At. All.

Her question during a recent TED Talk prompted me to think really hard. Lizzie asked "What defines you?"

And it's really gotten me thinking. It's been about half an hour since I've watched this video and I still can't really figure out what defines me. Good one, and thank you Lizzie.

So I've decided let's start from the beginning...

As a young girl, what defined me was that I was a very good pianist, I spoke fluent English (coming from an Asian family living in South East Asia), I had good manners and my father had passed away.

Then in my teens, what defined me was how I was a struggling student. I wasn't an idiot. But I just wasn't that all interested in learning things in school and regurgitating how it works during exams. My friends were all doing well. I just couldn't entirely be bothered until my major finals.

College years were a little more fun for me. I was among the elite students and party girl that no one could mess with. College was surprisingly very easy for me so I graduated with a 3.75 GPA. I barely had to make an effort to succeed (the total opposite of secondary school) and spent a lot of time out partying, and that was what defined me.

Similarly in university, I only had to do two core units to pass and I kid you not when I say they were relatively easy units. So to fill up the rest of the credits, I decided to take things that I couldn't and wouldn't usually take up such as Myths & Legends, Film & Video, Third Year Japanese. But what was it that defined me then? I don't know. The girl who put on 20lbs within 6 month? The one who came with a twin attached? The girl who really loved bacon?

Then when I first started working - I had the whole notion that I'm gonna make it big. I'm going to be successful. I'm going to be the best writer the world has seen (we all know it's not true now hahaha) and I'm not going to let anything bring me down.

Unfortunately my first job was incredibly taxing, so much so that I learnt to bottle things up and just get my job done. In the next few other jobs, I faced a similar problem with my superiors - the typical Asian-ness where the bosses are always right and you're never. Speak when you're spoken to. Don't get too chummy because I'm not your friend.

As you can see... I have lost my definition the moment I started transitioning into an adult. It is here that I realize I'm not special. I don't have special skills, or at least none that can propel me above the rest.

But after writing all these stuff down... I think I realize what defines me. This may change, but change is the only constant, no? :)

What defines me is how big my heart is.

And I think that's good enough for me, thanks for your question, Lizzie xxx

Thank you, Baroness Schrader

I really don't know what to write when it comes to this. I've always loved the Baroness. I thought she was a woman of substance and elegance... and oh my gawdddd I loved her dress

Anyways, just heard today that she's passed on and felt compelled to note it down in a blogpost.

Maybe I'll figure out later what I really wanted to say, but for now - it's just thank you.

New year, new job!

Yes it's true! I've quit my current job and will be embarking on a new on just as the New Year comes in :)

Why'd I quit?

1. This place is a one minute drive (literally, I am NOT exaggerating) from where I live.
2. This job allows me more flexibility
3. It pays more!

Oh and one more reason, although I'm not sure if a lot of people will take me seriously about it... is that it's in the state of Selangor (which has more public holidays than Kuala Lumpur).

I'll also be getting a two-week break between jobs so stay tuned for a holiday post!!! :)

Meeting my childhood idol

I'm still pretty chuffed about this whole thing. About 2 weeks ago I got a phone call telling me that I've won tickets to the Richard Clayderman Romantique Concert in KL.

To top it off, it was a pair of gold tickets + a meet and greet!!! I'm finally meeting  my childhood dream musician play live AND I get to meet him! How great is that?

I won it via a Facebook contest and I really couldn't believe my ears when they called to let me know.

So I called mum up to tell her that we're going to see Richard Clayderman play live, I cried. I really couldn't believe that I would meet the man who inspired me to play the piano.

This is him playing Ballade Pour Adeline. The only disappointment I felt during the entire concert was that the Gold seats were a bit TOO far away. I could barely see his face, I mean, they could put some other dude in place and I wouldn't know any better. Thank goodness for the two projector screens!!!

He's definitely aged quite a bit since, I mean I'm already past 30 :P but his playing is impeccable. I cried so many times throughout his performance because I felt sooo incredibly lucky and humbled to be there!

Then to top it off, we got to say hello to him! It was rather strict though, like they would only allow 10 people in at any one time and we were to only take group photos.

Unfortunately (or rather fortunately for us!),  there was a bit of a problem as we were about to enter. They pulled mum in without me and we really wanted to go in together. Then there was this little girl in front of me, whose mum wasn't allowed to go in with her (because they had only one pass), so I offered to accompany her in, just so that she wouldn't be alone.

But after a bit of confusion here and there, they let the little girl in with one of the staff and I went in to join mum.

The best bit of this entire evening? Mum and I were the only ones in there with Richard so we got a personal photo with him :)

A whole new world

Iron Man 3 in 3D!!!

I was pretty lucky to have won 2 tix to the movie courtesy of the U.S. Embassy of KL!

They ran a contest on Facebook and all I had to do was answer a couple of questions!!!

I'll be honest - I wasn't that all excited for the move because, well, most sequels (trilogies) kinda suck. But hey! It's Tony Stark!

Well I'll let you know that I was pleasantly surprised and I liked the movie! (trying not to give any plot away).

Oh and in all Marvel movies... You'll know what to do when the credits roll

Ooohhh the Deppster on Family Guy?

I came across this article earlier and I'm like going "OMG OMG OMG!!!"

I loved Johnny as Edward Scissorhands... that character was so bizarre yet vulnerable...

Can't wait for the episode to air! :)

Sigh....

The pup's slipped his disc... and it seems bad this time....

I'm sitting in the ER now waiting to see what the diagnosis is....

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Oh noes :(

I was really upset when I heard that the Deppster and Vanessa had confirmed a split. This was one couple that I looked up to and hoped to emulate my own relationship with the pup.

I loved how they are honest enough to each other that they didn't need to get married to prove anything.

I loved how Johnny said about a couple of months ago that they didn't need a piece of paper or someone to tell them "Okay you're married," because a union between two people are really soul to soul and heart to heart.

The pup and I have been together for almost four years now and we've been living together for about three years. It's almost like we're married, you know. We carpool to work, eat meals together, share lame jokes, we have two fur-kids (no we're not ready for real kids just yet)... the whole shindig.

I really hope you guys work things out for the best.

What's your bucket list?

1. bucket list

A list of things to do before you die. Comes from the term "kicked the bucket".
I need to remember to add skydiving to my bucket list.

I just got to think about this today. There are so many things I want to see.... and do... so I decided to write a bucket list.

Here are the top few on my list.

1. See the Aurora Borealis

I've dreamt about seeing this for a very long time but unfortunately I am in no financial situation to indulge myself in this just yet.

2. Buy a Mazda Miata

This has been my dream car since 1999 (or so) and I actually prefer the 2nd Generation. Last year I got an offer to buy a 1st Generation (NA) MT for 40,000MYR but on second thought, I didn't want to bog myself down with a 20 year old car that would probably spend most of its time in the workshop.

Then last week, I checked the local Mazda site. It's so depressing that even if I have the means to put down the 10% deposit and take a nine-year loan, I'd end up paying 2,400MYR per month just for it.

Again, I am in no financial situation to indulge in this just yet....

3.Visit Japan

I met one of my best friends in 1998 when she came to Malaysia on a student exchange program. We've remained fast friends since then and while she's traveled to Malaysia countless times, I have yet to visit her in Japan. If I can, I'd love to stay there for a year - be it home stay or work visa just to experience everything possible.

Unfortunately for me, I'm dating a guy who has an aversion to raw food which also makes him very apprehensive when it comes to Japanese cuisine (he's basically a very picky eater). So traveling to Japan with him would be difficult.

I hope to be able to at least do a one week trip next year for my 31st birthday. *fingers crossed*

Brings back memories

I have this massive emotional attachments to songs that I hear... sometimes for the first time... sometimes after something's happened...

I can get very overwhelmed up to the point where I can break down and cry just listening to the lyrics because I can SO relate to it.

A fine example is this song. I've heard it a couple of times on the radio but never bothered too much about it. Then about 2 months ago, I was in the car with my colleagues when this song came on the radio. The car fell silent because they too were listening to it (I hope), and that's when I heard the lyrics for the first time. The lyrics "I have died everyday waiting for you, darlin' don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years... I'll love you for a Thousand more"

It pinched my heart.

It made me think of my first love... but then the chatter in the car came back when the song ended - bursting my dream bubble, so I never gave it any more thought.

Two nights ago, Andy IMed me on gmail. We IM about once in a while. I try to keep the conversations short because it's not fair for Colin.

We talked about work - how I've moved on to another job because my previous one was suffocating me financially. He was telling me how proud he is of me because I've grown up so much in the years that we've been apart. Then it got to a point where I was telling him that people say that I'm a very patient person and he said

"Yeah I know that. You put up with me for so many years..."
"Yeah that's because I was in love with you... I thought this was for the long run... I wanted this for the long run so if it doesn't kill me... why not?"
"I hate it when you say it in past tense..."
"Andy... I still love you... but it's a different kind of love now... I will always love you - because you were a big part of my life..."
"I still love you too... and will always... and you're one of the few people left who call me 'Andy'."
"Oh? I thought everyone called you Andy..."
"Back then yes, now it's just my mom, my dad, my sister.... and you. It's like... you're family..."

Then we moved on to continue talking about work... and I had to go to sleep.

When I woke up, Colin played this song on youtube and as I listened to the lyrics, I couldn't help but feel.

I know I'm still in love with him. But I hate having that feeling especially when I'm with someone else. I hate it because it makes me doubt - am I doing the right thing?

Christina Perri - A Thousand Years

Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

One step closer

[Chorus:]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this

One step closer

[Chorus:]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

One step closer
One step closer

[Chorus:]
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards

Now I'll be honest - I didn't watch it :P

But I saw some dresses from the red carpet that I loved and I just wanted to share :)

  Jordin Sparks - red carpet
I just love that whole lace thing, it's so sweet and girly!

Jordin Sparks - press room/performance outfit
This outfit is almost like a complete grown up compared to her red carpet shot. The leather (I assume) heartshaped top with the full blue skirt gives her such a womanly feel

Nelly Furtado - red carpet
I'll be honest. I'm very inspired to crochet something like this. Maybe just a top, not a full on dress because I doubt I'll be capable of it. Plus, short-term goals like these are much easier on my schedule :P
Carly Rae Jepsen - red carpet
I'll be honest again - I have no idea who she is! :P But I love love love her hair and how simply elegant she looks here!
Carrie Underwood - red carpet
OMG I love the princess dress! I have this insane obsession about pouf-y dresses. I just love them, don't ask me why. Maybe it's one of my secret lifelong dreams of hoping to be whisked away by my Prince Charming on a white horse...

Well a girl can dream, no?

 Carrie Underwood - performance
Can anyone spell Goddess? Le sigh... such a powerful looking dress (it being Goddess-y and all red) but so feminine with the floaty materials.... I imagine her atop Mount Olympus serenading the Titans and possibly throwing a thunderbolt or two at the cheaters hahaha

Taylor Swift - red carpet
One of my favorite fashionistas. She always seems to look great at all these shows. I have yet to see her in a horrid outfit. Love the peek-a-boo details of her dress. Sexy sexy sexy!

Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington - red carpet
Is it me or does Mike's shoes look like they're some sorta high heel boot?

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Then the one that surprised me the most was this guy.........

For those who have no idea who he is, his name is Leo Ku. He's a manto/cantopop artiste who is big in Hong Kong/China.

Just thought it was rather random that he's at the BMAs 2012.... >.<

Happy Monday Peeps!
